This page provides information about tools Turnitin have developed to support the detection of AI-generated student writing. It is important to note that the University has currently made this tool available to academic staff for the purposes of testing its reliability.

AAIN generative artificial intelligence guidelines

The Australian Academic Integrity Network’s (AAIN) Generative AI Working Group developed a set of Generative Artificial Intelligence Guidelines for students, teaching staff, academic support and misconduct teams and higher education providers. Several of the guidelines for teaching staff relate to matters of academic integrity, including setting clear expectations around the appropriate use of AI in students’ work and talking to students about the limitations of its use.

How will universities confront the rising use of AI in academia?

Deakin University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Liz Johnson and Deakin Director of Digital Learning Associate Professor Trish McCluskey spoke to Ali Moore on ABC Radio Melbourne about academic integrity and the use of AI. Tips from this segment include encouraging students to acknowledge the use of AI tools in their work and talking to students about the appropriate use of AI tools.

Implications of generative artificial intelligence for higher education
