Who is teaching science?

Meeting the demand for qualified science teachers in Australian secondary schools

The objective of this project was to examine issues around the quality and supply of science teachers in Australian secondary schools. With data collected from a national survey or science teachers and heads of science departments, the project report examines the characteristics of these teachers, with a focus on their level of university education in science, their age profile and their attitudes towards their careers. The disciplines examined most closely were biology, chemistry, physics and geology/earth science.
