Meeting the demand for suitably qualified mathematics teachers in secondary schools

This project's findings are drawn from a nationwide survey of mathematics teachers and heads of secondary schools. It examines the nature of mathematics teaching in Australian secondary schools, including the profile of teachers, their responsibilities and the issues schools face with regard to teacher supply and quality in order to inform policy and practice regarding mathematics education and teacher training in Australia. Ultimately, the project's report finds that there is an urgent need for more teachers of mathematics in schools, particularly given the current difficulties for schools in recruiting qualified teachers in the discipline.
