This workshop augments successful supervision of graduate researchers by providing updates and information on the key responsibilities of academic supervisors at the University of Melbourne including:
- Facilitating the timely completion of graduate research
- Monitoring the quality of research in progress
- Knowing the relevant policy frameworks and requirements for graduate researchers
- Assisting graduates to develop transferable skills and prepare for their careers
All supervisors of graduate researchers are required to complete training in order to become registered as a supervisor, and to complete a refresher of that training every five years to maintain their status as a registered supervisor, as stated in the University policy. For this purpose, attendance is recorded in Themis.
This workshop is particularly relevant for new supervisors, and supervisors new to the University of Melbourne, but is suitable for all supervisors of graduate researchers. All experienced supervisors of graduate researchers at the University of Melbourne can also take the supervisor training online as a refresher to maintain their registration, completion of which will also be recorded in Themis.
For further information about being registered as a supervisor of graduate researchers at the University of Melbourne, please go to the Staff Hub.
