Professional Development for Supervisors of Graduate Researchers

In late December 2020, a new Graduate Research Supervisor Online Refresher course was launched on TrainME. All registered supervisors who are due or overdue to complete supervisor training have been enrolled in this course and advised to complete it. The original online supervisor course on TrainME has been discontinued.

For new supervisors, more comprehensive training is being provided by Melbourne CSHE via Zoom, with the first available session scheduled in April. To make it easier for academics to attend this two-day workshop, the sessions have been timed to avoid major grant dates. New supervisors can be assigned candidates on the understanding that they complete the upcoming workshop and submit the supervisor registration form so that registration can be processed. Faculties will need to confirm that supervisors have attended the Zoom training for them to continue to supervise beyond that date.

About

The Melbourne CSHE's professional development programs for supervisors of graduate researchers provide new and experienced supervisors with an opportunity to be informed about new policy, develop new skills, expand networks and find ways to better support their students.

Completion of the supervisor training contributes towards meeting the requirements of Supervisor Registration, so attendance is recorded in Themis. Supervisors can access more information on the steps to follow to achieve registration on the Graduate research supervisor registration webpage.

New supervisors should attend a face-to-face workshop while experienced supervisors should complete the online refresher training module.
