Co-creation is a design approach that allows students to engage with their educational journey by actively developing educational design with their academics, offering students a voice in and agency over their learning. Arts Teaching Innovation, ATI, has developed a project for embedding co-creation iteratively in curriculum design. This paper showcased co-creation in Spanish 1, the beginners’ level Spanish subject. Co-creation activities included in this subject can be categorised into three general types: group discussions, collaborative activities and student-produced videos. Co-creation in Spanish 1 has resulted in engaged students. They are enthusiastically involved in actively developing their learning. As well as demonstrating co-creation in practice, this paper will also discuss the importance of offering educational design support for such initiatives.

This Zoom presentation was part of the Melbourne CSHE Teaching and Learning Conference 2021 held on Tuesday 1 June 2021.
