Scalable approaches to team-based design

During 2020 and 2021 the Learning Environments (LE) Learning Design team partnered with staff from the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences (FVAS) to undertake ‘light touch’ redesigns and improvements of their subjects to support remote, blended and dual delivery. Through this process, the LE and FVAS teams trialled approaches to build more scalable and sustainable approaches to learning design through working in discipline teams as opposed to a more traditional 1-1 learning designer and teaching academic model. This innovative approach has enabled the LE team to provide tailored, just in time group-based training and resources while facilitated more active involvement by faculty staff in the learning design process resulting in increased skills development, knowledge sharing and sustainable practice.

The presentation describes key lessons learned and development approaches as well as some of the resources developed, including a short walk through the interactive curriculum mapping template tool and activity ideas board developed in Padlet. The tools can be used by anyone wishing to map and redesign their subject but are particularly useful for blended or dual delivery and for considering active learning and the appropriate synchronous and asynchronous blend.
