Effective lecturing in large classes

With two decades of university teaching behind him, David discusses the techniques he uses to ensure active learning in lectures and how he comes to understand which concepts students need further help with. As he explains, even very experienced university teachers sometimes give a 'flat' lecture! David talks about the process by which he gets feedback on his teaching for ongoing improvement.
Promoting interdisciplinary thinking
In her team-taught interdisciplinary subject, Alison will often teach classes of up to 400 students. Here, she discusses techniques for structuring learning activities in large-group teaching contexts. She also addresses the question of assessment in interdisciplinary subjects and the importance of designing tasks that encourage students to integrate the disciplines.

In so doing, she teaches her students the important role uncertainty and ambiguity play in learning and the development of creativity.

A co-designer of the award-winning peer review system PRAZE, Raoul outlines the benefits for students in engaging in anonymous peer review processes. Reviewing others' work can directly inspire learning by, among other things, building students' confidence, aiding in engagement with course content and generating dialogue between students.
