Internationalising secondary school education in Victoria


This study investigated the effects of international student inclusion in government schools, by examining how individual schools develop and optimise the benefits of internationalisation through their International Student Program (ISP).

The research questions were framed around two specific areas. The first aim was to identify the contributions of international students to internationalising secondary school education and the second was to identify and analyse the key features of internationalisation achieved through the ISP.

The ISP in four Victorian secondary schools (with varying numbers of international students) was examined closely, as were its conditions and effects in the school. Interviews were also conducted with leadership personnel, school staff, and international and local students.
